Gotta Own Up To Responsibility

Description

A continuation from the random musings idea I had yesterday, and couldn’t help but desire to fiddle around more with it. In a fit of Alternate Universe shenanigans, Ash managed to battle Erika before the Ashley disguise was found out. The interference of Team Rocket and the resulting fire happened as in canon. Though ‘Ashley’ did manage to rescue Gloom, but the wig burned up and caused him to be revealed.

However, this is where things ended up diverging even more. Erika didn’t give Ash the Rainbow Badge for rescuing Gloom, and instead – after they all moved to a Pokemon pen area that was unburnt for privacy – brought up the fact that it was partially Ash’s fault for helping Team Rocket get into the gym and steal something, not to mention allowing them to cause a fire that caused a ton of damage.

Erika revealed to Ash that she could just as easily inform the authorities of Ash’s involvement, which would turn problematic. Ash, in response, was all frantic about that, his inability to obtain a badge, and the idea that if that happened, he would have trouble getting a move on with his journey.

That was when Erika provided an alternative to having to deal with the authorities. Own up to the damages he caused by helping out with restoring the gym. Not to mention that ‘Ashley’ was still pretty much registered as a member and was even more responsible for the actions due to that.

And so, the canon splits, and an AU occurs. Ash finds himself – as Ashley – helping around the gym and taking various classes in the process. On the bright side, this allows him to get some actual pointers and training from a gym leader in attempts to eventually gain the Rainbow Badge. ‘Ashley’s’ time as part of the gym would also eventually impart upon him various knowledge of berries, toxic plants, and medicinal plants that would be beneficial to any trainer.

In addition to this, Erika eventually learns of the whole bike issue, and feeling as if Ash could do with owning up to that as well, uses her pull as a gym leader to get ‘Ashley’ a part time job outside of the gym. Perhaps the perfume shop, or the department store.

Of course, Ash would still desire to gain the other badges and travel, which… leads to a bit more of a pickle since it would conflict with his paying back of the damages. Much to Ash’s embarrassment, this issue leads to him having to get his Pokedex modified for one ‘Ashley’, which would likely only lead to Prof. Oak laughing his head off at the absurdity and trying to alleviate Ash’s strife with some attempted haiku and failing.

As for Ash’s mother… well… she would definitely be pretty adamant about Ash taking responsibility for the issues he caused, and that the best thing to do would be to man up and do the right thing. Not to mention the fact that the whole idea to her is just plain adorable and humorous.

And so, the AU adventure of ‘Ashley’ begins its crazy journey, much to the embarrassment of our hero. At least he gains training and knowledge from an experienced gym leader!

I feel Misty would just tell Erika that refusing to admit trainers for a challenge could get her in a lot of trouble with the Pokémon League herself. Not because she's defending Ash, but instead because if she involves the authority; she could easily be reported to the Pokémon League for negligence at her job.

I'm not trying to hate on this, so please don't misunderstand me. I merely wish to say how I personally think this would turn out. = ) HAVE A NICE DAY!
